St. Lawrence Central names 2023 valedictorian, salutatorian

BRASHER — St. Lawrence Central announced their valedictorian and salutatorian for the graduating class of 2023.

The district valedictorian is Miss Rebecca Nezezon. She is the daughter of Dr. Joel Nezezon and Dr. Susan Bregman and the granddaughter of two St. Lawrence Central alumni. Nezezon is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Tri-M Musical Honor Society, Senior Band, Spanish Club. She also serves as Class Treasurer for the class of 2023. Rebecca has received the NYSPHAA Scholar-Athlete award during every varsity season while competing in varsity swimming, varsity basketball, and varsity softball.

In addition, Nezezon was selected as the recipient of the Lisa Lane Swimming Award, and was recognized as an WWNY-TV Academic All-Star.

Her plans after graduation are to attend college majoring in Political Science and International Affairs. She has currently been accepted to Vassar College, The University of Washington and The Ohio State University, where she was awarded the National Buckeye Scholarship. Rebecca has not made her final acceptance decision at this time.

Nezezon ’s advice to upcoming students about reaching their goals or having academic successes would be: “Don’t allow others to interfere with your aspirations”.

When asked about other future goals and plans, she stated that she would like to grow a peach tree, and write a children’s book.

The district salutatorian is RyLee Daoust. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John and Marnie Daoust.

Daoust has received the NYSPHAA Scholar-Athlete award during every varsity season while competing in soccer, basketball, and softball. In addition she has earned the following Section Sports Awards: Soccer – First team All-Northern, League MVP and Second team All-Northern; Basketball – Second team All-Northern, First team All-Northern and Jan Reetz finalist; Softball – Second team All-Northern, First team All-Northern, First team All-Northern and All-State Third team.
