SUNY Canton professor to serve on state Embodied Carbon Technical Advisory Group

CANTON – Saeid Haji Ghasemali, Ph.D., an associate professor at SUNY Canton’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Technology program, has been selected to serve on New York State’s Embodied Carbon Technical Advisory Group.

His expertise, notably in employing glass fiber reinforced polymer as a substitute for steel rebar in concrete, stands as a pioneering effort to significantly reduce the carbon footprint in construction practices.

This prestigious invitation recognizes his innovative approach and underscores SUNY Canton’s commitment to pioneering sustainability initiatives.

Haji Ghasemali recently helped lead a group of students in the American Concrete Institute Fiber Reinforced Polymer Composites Competition, taking home a second-place national finish, and securing eighth place internationally.
