Binghamton area car-motorcycle crash critically injures passenger

Three people were taken to the hospital, two with serious injuries, following a crash Saturday morning in the Town of Maine.

The initial investigation revealed at approximately 8:24 a.m. Saturday, a motorcycle traveling south on state Route 26 struck a car crossing Route 26 at the East Maine Road intersection, according to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office.

Both occupants of the motorcycle were ejected from the bike. The motorcycle operator sustained back injuries and the passenger sustained a life-threatening head injury, the sheriff’s office said.

Life-saving measures on the passenger were taken by first responders on the scene, and both motorcycle occupants were transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.

The driver of the motorcycle was listed in serious condition Saturday and the passenger was in critical condition. The automobile operator sustained minor injuries and was also transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center for evaluation, the sheriff’s office said.

No names have been released at this time.

The accident is still under investigation and the Broome County Sheriffโ€™s Office said it will provide additional updates as the investigation continues.
