Two Binghamton residents face felony charges after exchanging gunfire with a Town of Maine homeowner Wednesday evening during a reported home invasion attempt.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspects as Jayvon Phillip, 21, and Rozlyn Warthen, 31, both of Binghamton.
Around 10 p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to an address on Bradley Creek Road in Maine for the report of an attempted burglary and shots fired, the sheriff’s office said.
Arriving deputies established a masked individual, later identified as Phillip, had been actively attempting to unlawfully enter the home, and then pointed a firearm at the homeowner.
The homeowner exchanged gunfire in front of his residence with the suspect, firing two rounds while the assailant fired eight shots.

Phillip sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and fled from the scene before the arrival of patrol units, the sheriff’s office said.
Sheriff’s detectives arrived to investigate the incident and determined the homeowner, who was not injured, defended himself and was within his legal rights.
Investigators concluded Phillip and Warthen went to the residence armed with illegal handguns in attempts to burglarize the home, the sheriff’s office said. In addition, detectives believe the attack was not random, and the homeowner was specifically targeted.
Phillip was being treated at a local hospital for his gunshot wound when he and Warthen were arrested.
As a result of the investigation, the sheriff’s office charged Phillip and Warthen with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted burglary, and first-degree criminal use of a firearm, all felonies.
They were both arraigned and committed to the Broome County Jail without bail.
The investigation is continuing. Anyone who has information related to the incident is asked to call the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Division at 607-778-1196, and…
