When the NFL Draft gets underway Thursday night, the Buffalo Bills will begin the three-day process with only six picks, one in each of the first six rounds and none in the seventh.
That could certainly change if general manager Brandon Beane starts wheeling and dealing which is something he is known to do. Across his first five Billsโ drafts he has executed eight trades including one in 2018 that helped position him to select quarterback Josh Allen, and another that sent the 2020 first-round pick to Minnesota for wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
If Beane stays put, the Bills will have pick Nos. 27 (first round), 59 (second), 91 (third), 130 (fourth), 137 (fifth, from Arizona in the Cody Ford trade) and 205 (sixth).
As for which way he may lean with the first selection, itโs awfully tough to pinpoint a position or player picking that late on the first night.
โI think 27 feels like a long way to figure out whoโs gonna be available, and itโs hard to say which side of the ball,โ he said. โIโm usually not going into a draft saying, โHey, letโs hit one side of the ball or the other.โ Weโll just see how the board falls. Weโre going to set the board and itโll kind of tell us what we need to do.โ
The seven-round draft runs Thursday to Saturday from outside Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri, and will be broadcast on ABC, ESPN and the NFL Network. Round 1 begins at 8 p.m. Thursday. Rounds 2 and 3 are Friday, starting at 7 p.m. Rounds 4-7 start at noon on Saturday.
