Saturday marked quite the sendoff for Johnson City senior Dayzin Legare in New York state track & field competition.
One of Section 4โs most established athletes in the sport, Legare was fastest overall in the 200-meter dash on Day 2 of the state championship meet at Middletown High School.
He ran 21.39 seconds in the overall final, with Marcus Nahim runner-up in 21.49.
Earlier, Legare topped the D2 200 field with a 21.37-second clocking. Landon Stormer of Frewsburg was next-best in 21.62. Legare ran second to James Iโ OโNeillโs Jadon Spainโs 10.53 with a 10.71 in the Division 2 100 final.
Also on Day 2 of the championships:
Chenango Valleyโs Tyler Norton placed fourth overall and second in D2 on clearance of 6 feet, 6 inches in the high jump.
In the girls 1,500, Elmiraโs Vicky Mordvinova was seventh overall with a 9:32.91, and Ethne Degan of B-G/Afton 11th overall and D2 runner-up with a 4:37.39.
Carlea Davis of Dryden placed fourth in the D2 100 hurdles race with a 15.81. Waverlyโs boys (Kayleb Bechy, Jerrell Sackett, Micah Chandler, Ralph Johnson) took fourth overall in the 400 relay by teaming for a 42.56.
Emerson Comer of South Kortright ran ninth overall and third in the D2 steeplechase with a 9:40.22.
Corningโs Marcus Homa, Jaxyn Mahoney, Tevin McLaren and Gabe Cornfield grabbed fourth in the 3,200 relay with a tidy 7:54.01.
Tess Eisner of Horseheads rounded out her season by leaping 17 feet, 3ยพ inches as fifth-place high jumper.
A heave of 34-4ยผ landed Panayiota Anastos of Maine-Endwell seventh overall in the girls shot put.
