Maine-Endwell enjoys an off day Wednesday before facing a must-win proposition in the New York State 10-12-year-old Little League Baseball Tournament on Staten Island.
M-E has split two games in its four-team pool as one of two 1-1 teams entering Thursdayโs conclusion of pool play. Up top of the National Pool is 2-0 South Shore and trailing is 0-2 Cornwall.
Maine-Endwell opened with a 4-2 win Monday against Cornwall, but was held to two hits โ one by Jackson Buckley and one by Grady Skorupa โ in an 8-2 loss to Plainview on Tuesday. Two Plainview pitchers teamed to strike out 15 and M-E committed four errors.
Thursday will bring a 5 p.m. game against South Shore, which has outscored its opponents by 24-1. Semifinals are to be played Friday with the championship game scheduled for Saturday.
Meanwhile, M-Eโs Buckley made productive use of his โoffโ day by winning the home run derby.
The state champion will advance to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament, Aug. 6-11 at the A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League Leadership Training Center in Bristol, Connecticut.

New Yorkโs 8-10-year-old Little League Baseball Tournament is being contested at Logan Field in Endicott, and M-E faces a second elimination game at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the double-elimination format.
M-E dropped its opener 11-1 to Tri-Village, then came back with a 7-2 win against Penfield. St. James-Smithtown will be the opponent Wednesday night. At stake will be a berth against Tri-Village or New Hartford at 5 p.m….
