The New York Mets hope to turn things around in the second half as they face off against the Los Angeles Dodgers for a three-game series beginning tonight at Citi Field.
Despite disappointing through the first 90 games, the Mets (42-48, 4th in NL East) finished hot as they had a season-high six-game winning streak and series wins against the San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks.
Justin Verlander will make his 13th start in a Mets’ uniform. The three-time Cy Young Award winner has had an up-and-down first season in Queens but was figuring it out before the All-Star Break. Verlander has surrendered only two runs and 10 hits in 13 innings pitched this month.
After a series loss against the lowly Kansas City Royals, the Dodgers (51-38, 1st in NL West), bounced back as they won five of their previous six games leading into the All-Star Break. Southpaw Julio Urias gets the call for tonight but has struggled after finishing third in NL Cy Young voting last season. The 26-year-old comes into this one with a 4.76 ERA and has conceded at least five earned runs in four of his previous starts on the road.
Here are the lineups for tonight’s game:
