The search for a missing swimmer in New Jersey continued into Monday morning after the swimmer went underwater at a lake Sunday night and never resurfaced.
Officials told multiple local outlets the subject of the search is a teenager, who was reportedly swimming late Sunday at Alcyon Lake in Pitman, a borough of Gloucester County roughly 20 miles south of Philadelphia, when they disappeared.
In a Facebook post after 10:30 p.m. Sunday, the borough of Pitman asked that people avoid the area as a search involving multiple agencies was underway.
Authorities were still searching Monday morning, the borough said in a Facebook post at 8:21 a.m. local time, adding that no additional information was available.
“Our community is thankful for the efforts of all the agencies that have responded to assist throughout the night and into today,” according to the post.
The Pitman Police Department declined to answer any questions Monday morning when reached by USA TODAY.
USA TODAY reached out to the Gloucester County Emergency Response department for more information.
