Murder charge for suspect in shooting death of Broome County man

A suspect is in custody following a second shooting death in July in the Village of Endicott.

Police officers responded to Fillmore Avenue in the village shortly after midnight Saturday in response to a call and discovered a person with an apparent gunshot wound, according to the Endicott Police Department.

The male victim, whose name has not been released, was transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, where he later died, police said.

During the investigation, officers developed information that a suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle.

The suspect, identified by police as Antoine C. Loup Jr., of North Arthur Avenue in Endicott, was later located on East Main Street and arrested around 2:10 a.m. by village police.

Police charged Loup with second-degree murder. He was arraigned in Broome County Centralized Arraignment Part Court and committed to the Broome County Jail without bail.

The investigation revealed Loup and the victim knew each other and this was not a random act, according to police, who added the incident was not related to a fatal shooting July 1 on Adams Avenue in the village.

In that situation, 25-year-old Moelique Dawson of Endicott was found shot at around 1:30 by police officers responding to a gunfire complaint.

Police are still searching for a suspect in Dawson’s death.

The Endicott Police Department was assisted in the latest investigation by New York State Police and the Broome County Sheriff’s Office.
