Odds Pete Alonso wins 3rd title in 4 years

The MLB All-Star Break is right around the corner and with that comes one of the most exciting events of the year: the Home Run Derby.

If this year’s contest is anything like last year’s contest in Los Angeles, we’re in for a show. There were multiple upsets in the tournament, including 42-year-old and future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols taking down top-seeded Phillies’ outfielder Kyle Schwarber 20-19.

Mariners young stud Julio Rodriguez shocked the tournament when he launched 63 home runs in the first two rounds, knocking off fan-favorite former Dodger Corey Seager in the first round and a two-time champion in the Mets’ first baseman Pete Alonso in the semifinals. The loss was Alonso’s first ever in the Derby and this time he’ll be going for a third win in four tries.

Here are the betting odds and our prediction on who will win the 2023 Home Run Derby.

Pete Alonso: The betting favorite yet again (+300)

Unsurprisingly, Alonso enters this year’s HR Derby the betting favorite for the second consecutive season at 3/1. Last year, he was +200 (2/1) to win the tournament but fell to the aforementioned Rodriguez in the second round. The “Polar Bear” hit his 26th home run of the season in the first inning of a 9-0 win Thursday night and a sweep of the NL West leading Diamondbacks.

With the long ball in the series finale against the D-Backs, Alonso moved into sole possession of third most home runs in the majors (26) and is second to only the Braves’ Matt Olson (29) in the National League.

In order to advance, Alonso will need to win the rematch against Rodriguez as he faces the 22-year-old old in the first round. While I’m betting against Alonso winning his third Home Run Derby,…
