A boy was shot and killed by a Pennsylvania State trooper during a confrontation Thursday evening in a wooded area of Herrick Township, according to state police at Towanda.
Troopers were dispatched shortly before 5 p.m. to just north of Wyalusing in eastern Bradford County, where a person they identified only as a “juvenile male subject” was reported to have a handgun.
Arriving troopers who encountered him issued numerous verbal commands to drop the weapon, according to a state police report, but he did not comply and “immediately presented himself as an imminent threat.” The report did not elaborate on or further specify the boy’s behavior.

One of the troopers on the scene fired his weapon “to stop the action of the subject,” according to the report. The boy โ state police have not released his name or age โ was immediately rendered aid, according to the report, and transported to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, where he died from his injuries.
Investigators from Pennsylvania State Police Troop P, Wilkes-Barre and Laporte stations are investigating the circumstances of the shooting, along with the Bradford County District Attorney’s Office.
District Attorney Albert Ondrey said he can’t comment on the case due to the ongoing investigation.
The trooper who fired the shot has been place on administrative duty status โ which is automatic department policy in these instances โ until the investigation is complete, according to Trooper William Evans III, state police Troop P public information officer.
No other information on the case will be released at this time, Evans said.
