NEW YORK – This will be a working weekend for Yankees general manager Brian Cashman and his lieutenants, as the Yankees sift through trade scenarios.
MLB’s deadline is Tuesday, and based on the Yanks’ history, there’s a high expectation that some areas of need – left field, bullpen, catcher, perhaps third base – will be upgraded over the next few days.
“I find it to be an exciting time,’’ said Yankees manager Aaron Boone, who might see some players from his current active roster involved in upgrades for teams currently outside the playoff window.

Around the team, “some people feed off that, for some people it can be a distraction or stressful,’’ Boone said of the trade deadline period.
For his input, “as things become a potential reality, that’s when I get a little more involved,’’ said Boone.
Here are five Yankees who at least have the potential to be moved in deals prior to Tuesday’s 6 p.m. MLB trade deadline:
Domingo German
If everyone is healthy in about 10 days, someone is coming out of the Yankees’ rotation to accommodate Nestor Cortes’ return from the injury list.
Barring a trade, that someone could be German.
The right-hander’s ability was highlighted by his June 28 perfect game at Oakland, yet he’s been plagued by familiar inconsistencies all season.
Under team control through 2024, German is a potential trade chip in a package to bring back some offense.
After a shaky start to 2023 (2-4 record, 6.00 ERA), Clarke Schmidt has pitched to a 2.96 ERA and is not eligible for free agency until after the 2027 season, making him a more valuable rotation piece.
Gleyber Torres
Subtracting Torres off a team with October aspirations wouldn’t appear to be a bright idea, but it’s not entirely out of the question.
