
NEW YORK – Next stop, it’s Baltimore.
And the Yankees might be joined at Camden Yards by Aaron Judge, in a long awaited and desperately needed mid-summer reunion.
Before the Yankees hung on for a 3-1 win over the Mets on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium, splitting the four-game Subway Series for 2023, Aaron Boone provided another stealthy Judge update.
The Yankees manager didn’t divulge any plans to have Judge in his lineup for Friday night’s three-game series opener against the AL East-leading Orioles.
But he didn’t reject the idea of activating the reigning AL MVP from the injury list this weekend.
“I wouldn’t rule anything out,’’ Boone said. “But we’re kind of taking it day by day and huddling up at the end of the day and seeing what the next steps are.
“Right now, it’s seeing how he came out of (Wednesday’s workout), how that went, and where we’re at and if we need to keep doing more.’’
What’s next for Aaron Judge?
On Wednesday afternoon, Boone had not received a full report of Judge’s second day of workouts at Tampa, Fla., except that “it sounds like it went well.’’
Tuesday’s workout had consisted of about five plate appearances, which included a Judge home run, according to Boone’s report of that simulated session.
Judge played the outfield but did not have any defensive chances. That was supposed to change Wednesday, with baserunning also on Judge’s workout card.
Boone planned on speaking with the Yankees captain by phone later Wednesday.
The Yankees have a team off date Thursday, ahead of their last series of the season at Baltimore, where the young, talented, low-budget Orioles have taken command of the AL East.
Meanwhile, the Yankees have posted a 19-23 record since Judge landed on the IL on June 4, having suffered a sprained right big toe (torn ligament) while crashing into the Dodger Stadium wall to make a game-saving catch.
