William Jane Dispensary Company to open in Ithaca NY

A cannabis dispensary is coming to the former Trader K’s in downtown Ithaca.

William Jane Dispensary Company will be located at 119 – 121 E. State St. on the Ithaca Commons. The storefront formerly housed Trader K’s used clothing store for over 25 years and occupies the same building as The Range bar, which is located upstairs.

Binghamton businessman William Durham is president of William Jane. Durham was awarded one of the three Conditional Adult Use Retail Dispensary licenses (CAURD) in the Southern Tier region.

To be eligible for CAURD licenses, a person had to have a cannabis conviction or have a family member who had one. They also must have experience owning a profitable business. Durham owns WH Convenience Store in downtown Binghamton.

In an interview with binghamtonhomepage.com, Durham said that he plans to do “a lot of events” and the college town atmosphere will help sustain his business.

Earlier this month, New York state’s first recreational cannabis dispensary outside New York City opened in Binghamton. Just Breathe is owned and operated by the Broome County Urban League, a non-profit which helps create opportunities for those in the justice system.

Although New York State legalized the recreational use of cannabis in April 2021, retail dispensaries were delayed until late 2022. The first legal dispensary, operated by NYC non-profit Housing Works, opened on Dec. 29 in lower Manhattan. In the weeks that followed, two more dispensaries opened in New York City.
