1 dead in triple shooting on I-190, southbound traffic diverted to Route 198

Three people were shot on Interstate-190 just north of downtown Thursday, a law enforcement source told The Buffalo News.

One person died in the shooting, state police said in a statement.

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said on social media that the incident “has been reported to me as a shooting with multiple injuries.”

Authorities have not said whether there’s a danger to the public.

State police said the shooting took place about 11:20 a.m.

All lanes of the southbound side of the 190 north of downtown were closed Thursday due to the shooting, state police said on social media. All traffic was being diverted at Exit 11 (Scajaquada Expressway). Traffic was at a crawl on the northbound side of the I-190.

Investigators could be seen looking at a Buffalo Sewer Authority truck that was on the side of the highway. There appeared to be six bullet holes in the truck. What appeared to be a body was on one side of the truck.

Sources told The Buffalo News that the three shooting victims were city workers.

NITTEC cameras of the area showed police cars, an ambulance and a fire truck in the middle of the highway next to Centennial Park shortly after the shooting.

Poloncarz also urged anyone headed downtown to avoid I-190 “at all costs” and also advised Canadians heading to the Bills game tonight in Orchard…
