2 motel residents and 2 firefighters taken to the hospital after Chautauqua County fire

Two residents and two firefighters were taken to UPMC Chautauqua hospital for evaluation following a fire early Tuesday morning at the Colony Motel in West Ellicott, near Jamestown, fire officials said.ย 

The first calls reporting the fire came in a little after 5.30 a.m. Tuesday. More than a dozen firefighters rushed to the scene to put out the fire.

About 15 residents of the motel were displaced, said Jamison Judtham, theย Celeron Hose Company Chief. Those displaced are receivingย aid from the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.ย 

When the rescueย team arrived at the scene, they saw a large fire at the back end of the building, which then spread to the first and second stories. Firefighters rescued one person safely, Judtham said.ย 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.ย 

There was a partial structural collapse due to the fire. As of 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, the Town of Ellicott has ordered a structural demolition.ย 

Fairmount Avenue in West Ellicott is expected to be closed for the greater part of Tuesday.ย
