Daricus Releford has a good reason for being motivated to move his startup company to Buffalo – if it’s a winner in Thursday’s 43North finals.
As it turns out, Buffalo is ranked the No. 3 city in the United States for use of his California-based mobile payment solution StoreCash, which allows customers to earn cash back on purchases at hundreds of retailers.
AMPAworks, one of five winners of last year’s 43North competition, is growing substantially in Buffalo and has plans to stay. The company has doubled its staff and has signed on with several healthcare systems in Buffalo now using its smart camera technology to track inventory and combat supply inefficiencies in healthcare.
Releford also estimates that moving to Buffalo would save $433,000 in operational costs, allowing him to hire seven additional employees potentially from Western New York.
He wound up traveling to Buffalo from San Jose after connecting with Scott Wayman, CEO and founder of Kangarootime, who introduced Releford to the 43North competition.
