The Aquarium of Niagara has named an interim president and CEO, with its current leader preparing to leave early next year.
Tracie Schafer’s appointment will take effect Feb. 1, according to the Niagara Aquarium Foundation’s board of trustees. She will take over for Gary Siddall, whose resignation takes effect Jan. 31.
Gary Siddall, president and CEO of Aquarium of Niagara, will leave the institution to become president and CEO at the Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences, the cultural institution that manages the Buffalo Museum of Science and Tifft Nature Preserve.
Schafer serves as the aquarium’s vice president of finance and administration. She joined the aquarium in 2017, and has taken on roles of increasing responsibility over her tenure, the foundation said.ย
โThe Aquariumโs organizational structure has a clearly defined line of succession for key decision making and leadership continuity in the absence of the president/CEO,โ said Christine Lorenz, chairwoman of the foundation’s board. โWe are confident in Tracieโs ability to maintain the organizationโs momentum and shepherd the Aquariumโs strong operations team through this period of transition.โ
