Bisons announce NASA scientists as guests at Sahlen Field solar eclipse viewing party

With downtown Buffalo expected to be in the path of totality to view the upcoming solar eclipse, the Buffalo Bisons announced Thursday they have teamed with NASA to host the “Total Solar Eclipse at Sahlen Field,” a NASA-hosted viewing event that will be free to the public in the ballpark on April 8.

How does a total solar eclipse happen and what will the experience be like? Here’s what you need to know.ย 

Gates will open at noon and the program begins at 1 p.m. with NASA scientists,ย Q&A sessions, demonstrations and a live feed of NASA programming on the Bisons’ 80-foot center field scoreboard. The first 2,000 fans through the Swan Street gate will receive a free pair of eclipse viewing glasses.ย ย 

The free tickets must be picked up at the ballpark box office. Tickets also can be ordered at Bisons.com/Eclipse for a $1 processing fee. All tickets will be general admission.

Minor league baseball teams in several cities are planning eclipse-related events in their ballparks because the cosmic phenomenon is on a Monday, which has become the traditional weekly day off on the minor league calendar. Just down the Thruway,ย the Rochester Red Wings are hosting fans in Innovative Field with tickets selling for $15 to $30.
