All aboard the Mark Poloncarz Drama Express
After a brief hiatus to win re-election, the Mark Poloncarz Drama Express is once again leaving the station.
It has been a month since Poloncarz became the first person ever to win a fourth term as Erie County executive. Despite the lack of a marquee opponent, his landslide victory was impressive, considering what a terrible summer he had with migrant issues and girlfriend controversies.
As victory tends to do, his 18-point win washed away the warts and returned the luster to Lackawanna’s second-favorite son. (Good luck unseating Ron Jaworski). Poloncarz was even mentioned as a candidate to succeed outgoing Rep. Brian Higgins.
Poloncarz on Dec. 10 put those rumors to rest, saying “my focus will remain on serving the people as Erie County Executive.”
He made no mention of exacting revenge on his political enemies, but couldn’t help himself when the opportunity presented itself over the weekend.
“I’m enjoying the replies from out-of-state trolls to my posts about who are essential personnel authorized to drive during a snowstorm travel ban,” Poloncarz tweeted. “Here’s the deal, since you hate government so much, don’t call 911 after getting stuck and demand we save your sorry patriot butts.”
Predictably, chaos on social media ensued.
“The real @markpoloncarz is back now that the election is over,” wrote Chrissy Casilio, Poloncarz’s Republican opponent in the most recent election.
Erie County Republican Chairman Michael Kracker said the comments were not just “childish and inappropriate,” but “dangerous.”
“A public official – who is literally responsible for managing the county’s E911 system – telling people who disagree with him to not seek emergency assistance is completely reckless, and disqualifying,” Kracker said in a statement.
