While neither Buffalo nor Amherst has received any credible threats, Mayor Byron W. Brown and Amherst Supervisor Brian J. Kulpa issued statements that they hope for peaceful resolution in the Middle East and want to avoid any conflicts in Western New York.
“Together with Buffalo, we are committed to doing what we can to prevent local issues from arising and to keep our Jewish communities safe,” Kulpa said. “While there are no credible threats to Amherst at this time, the Amherst Police Department will deploy additional resources, including houses of worship, to ensure that our communities have the resources they need to make sure everyone feels safe.”
A press release indicated Buffalo and Amherst police are in contact with the Buffalo Jewish Federation. Anyone who “witnesses suspicious activity” should call 911.
