The Buffalo Diocese has set the price at $5.3 million for a bucolic property in the Town of Aurora where it used to have men trained to become priests.
Diocese officials announced Thursday that the former Christ the King Seminary campus is back on the market.
The 117-acre campus on Knox Road is listed with Hanna Commercial Real Estate. The seminary closed in 2020, and future priests now study at St. Maryโs Seminary in Baltimore and St. Bernardโs School of Theology in Rochester.
Three potential buyers for the property emerged in 2020 after the seminary closed.ย One was the Masonic Care Community, which was prepared to make a cash offer, according to a trustee.
The diocese mothballed plans for the sale, due to โthe extreme demands of the Chapter 11 process,โ according to a spokesman.
The campus, which dates to 1974, includes renovated classroom and office space, a 460-seat auditorium, a chapel, a library, six dormitories, a large commercial kitchen and dining hall, a recreation center and a full gymnasium.
