Buffalo Heritage Carousel at Canalside announces leadership changes

The Buffalo Heritage Carousel heads into its fourth season with leadership changes as it prepares to celebrate the 1924 carousel’s centennial when it reopens in April.

Gabrielle Harrington has been appointed to a full two-year term after being named to the post in May on the recommendation of Mary Ann Kresse, who served as president until her death in 2023. Elizabeth Bozer Augustus, the daughter of founding member Joan Bozer, who also died last year, was named to the board.ย

Founding President Laurie Hauer-LaDuca and board members David Granville and Helen Ronan moved into emeritus status and Carima El-Behairy departed as executive director.

The carousel also announced the Carousel Council, a team of 19 leaders led by Joan Bozer’s grandson Daniel Bozer.ย

The wooden park-style menagerie carousel was designed by Spillman Engineering Company in North Tonawanda. After operating in Massachusetts for 30 years, the carousel went into storage for decades. It was acquired in 2016 and in 2021 opened to the public for the first time in 67 years.
