Buffalo man charged with assault after swinging knife at another man on Niagara Street

A Buffalo man was accused of striking another man and swinging a knife during a noontime incident on Wednesday along Niagara Street.

Buffalo Police said they charged Renier Uranta, 35, on Friday with third-degree assault; second-degree menacing; and second-degree harassment.

In responding to a knife call, officers found a man swinging a knife and trying to fight a bloody male victim, police said in a news release.

The victim told police the suspect had been driving on the designated bicycle lane on Niagara and almost struck him. The suspect is accused of getting out of the vehicle and assaulting the victim, before returning to the vehicle and grabbing a knife.

Uranta struck the victim several more times before fleeing, police said. He was located at Niagara and Potomac Avenue and taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.

Police arrested him after he was discharged.
