An altercation following a basketball game Tuesday between SUNY Buffalo State University and SUNY Brockport has led to a review of security at both schools and the decision to ban one person from the Buffalo State campus.
Administrators from Buffalo State and Brockport have responded to an altercation that took place Tuesday night after a menโs basketball game between the two schools at the Buffalo State Sports Arena.
The Buffalo News obtained a video of the altercation early Thursday morning, and the video, which is roughly two minutes long, shows spectators running across the court and charging at people, including one who is wearing a Brockport basketball uniform. Fighting ensues among multiple people before Buffalo State police begin to break up a fight between two people.
As spectators are either leaving or being led off the court, a person continues yelling at what appears to be Brockport assistants, who are also directing players off the court.
โThe post-game incident involved spectators and players from the opposing team,โ Buffalo State Athletic Director Renee Carlineo said in a statement to The News. โA spectator who was involved in the initial incident has been identified and banned from the Buffalo State University campus. This spectator is reported to have a prior association with a Brockport student. We believe the primary individuals involved in the incident currently reside in Rochester and have returned to their home city.โ
Officials from both schools did not name the person they said was the initial instigator. A Buffalo State spokesperson also confirmed to The News that a police report was filed by the universityโs police department regarding the incident, but the report was not immediately available because an investigation is ongoing. No charges have been filed.
