Cheektowaga, Kenmore East football forfeit Friday games following brawl

Cheektowaga and Kenmore East high schools have both decided to forfeit their scheduled football games this week, following a brawl between the two teams last weekend.

Cheektowaga was slated to play Amherst, and Kenmore East was going to host South Park.

The altercation between the teams occurred during the fourth quarter in what was a home game for the Bulldogs. Due to the seriousness of the events, the game was prematurely ended with Kenmore East winning 40-19.

The districts released a joint statement: โ€œDue to the behavior of players on the field during Fridayโ€™s Varsity football game between Cheektowaga Central High School and Kenmore East High School, referees ended the game during the fourth quarter of play. In partnership, both school districts investigated and have made the joint decision that both teams will forfeit their competitions this next weekend.

โ€œThe Cheektowaga Central School District and Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda Union Free School District maintain the highest expectations for conduct from all student-athletes. Both school districts agree that this behavior will never be tolerated.โ€
