Eden man who died in manufacturing accident was devoted family man

Andrew D. Stayzer of Eden was described by his widow, Eileen, as a big teddy bear of a man who looked forward to accompanying his family to Disney World.






Stayzer, an industrial electrician at WestRock Company in North Tonawanda, died Thursday after becoming trapped in a machine at the facility that manufactures corrugated containers, and where the 58-year-old Stayzer had worked since February 2020.

“I’m at a loss,” Eileen Stayzer said Monday, regarding the accident and its potential cause.

“I haven’t been able to speak to anybody. So I have no idea what happened,” she said.

North Tonawanda police have ruled Stayzer’s death as accidental. Meanwhile, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is conducting an inspection of the facility, which can take up to six months to complete.

Stayzer, who grew up in Lockport and was a graduate of Lockport High School, enjoyed his job at WestRock,ย according to his wife.ย 

“He worked there because that was the type of job he liked to do, working at a box company. He didn’t like working in food places and stuff like that. He enjoyed making the boxes,” Eileen Stayzer said.ย 

She said he worked at many different local manufacturing plants over the years, including as an electrician at Quebecor Printing in Depew. According to his Linkedin page online, Stayzer was an electrician at Aurubis, a copper manufacturing plant on Military Road in Buffalo for 12 years prior to beginning work at WestRock.

Known to his family and friends as Andy, Stayzer and the formerย Eileen Mastandreaย were married for 37 years and resided in Eden for 22 years….
