Forum seeks to prevent violence, threats in public spaces

The Erie County Law Enforcement Foundation on Wednesday will host a forum to inform public- and private-sector organizations how to prevent violence and threats in community spaces.

The foundation’s first Safe Places Seminar takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Buffalo Niagara Marriott, 1340 Millersport Highway, Amherst.

The U.S. Secret Service National Threat Assessment Center and the federal Department of Homeland Securityโ€™s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency will lead the seminar. Mike Patti, Tops Markets senior vice president for operations, will offer opening remarks.

NTAC will present its recent study, “Mass Attacks in Public Spaces: 2016-2020,” which analyzed 173 American incidents where three or more people were injured or killed in an attempt to prevent future incidents of targeted violence. CISA will discuss its efforts to reduce risk to cyber and physical infrastructure.

The event is free and open to the public. The event can be attended in person or watched live online. Registration is required at eclef.org/this-years-seminar.
