Friday deadline nears for Kensington Expressway comments

Friday concludes the public comment period for the state Department of Transportation’s $921.8 million Kensington Expressway project.

The proposal would replicate a portion of Humboldt Parkway by putting a tunnel over a section of the highway with green space atop it, which proponents say will improve aesthetics and quality of life, and reconnect neighborhoods.

Critics say the project fails to connect Delaware and Martin Luther King parks, as the original parkway did, and that it will deposit concentrated amounts of air pollution into nearby neighborhoods and stymie economic development by leaving the entire highway intact.ย ย

Written comments can be submitted to Kensington Expressway Project Team, NYSDOT Regional 5, 100 Seneca St., Buffalo, NY 14203.
