If you drink and drive in Western New York this weekend, you may have more to feel bad about than your beloved Buffalo Bills missing the Super Bowl.
Law enforcement agencies across the region will be out in force looking for drunken drivers.
“In a combined effort to stop impaired driving, prevent injuries and save lives, law enforcement officers across New York State will take to the roads,” Niagara County Sheriff Michael J. Filicetti said in a news release.
The statewide STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign effort runs throughout this weekend, ending late Sunday. It is one of several efforts annually that takes place during holiday and special weekends, when alcohol and drug use can become part of the celebration.
The campaign also generally takes place on and around Halloween, Thanksgiving, St. Patrick’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.ย
More concentrated efforts focused on drug-impaired driving also will take place this year on April 20 and July 10,ย Filicettiย said.ย
