It’s a short trip for Steelers fans to Buffalo, but will they come?

This Sunday’s playoff game in Buffalo between the Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers would seem to have all kinds of potential for sky-high prices for fans seeking last-minute tickets.

So far, it hasn’t happened.

As of Tuesday, there are many seats in the marketplace โ€“ approximately 6,200, and theyโ€™re starting at a little over $200, including fees, for the cheapest seat, with a sideline seat potentially being had for a little over $400, which is not a big difference in price, said Nick Giammusso, president and CEO of Buffalo event ticket distributor VIPTIX.

With the weather forecast calling for highs in the low 20s and wind chills in the single digits, the hottest ticket right now are the seats with warmers in the club level, he added.

โ€œPittsburgh fans travel well, and they only have a 3ยฝ-hour drive so weโ€™re expecting them to jump into the market,โ€ said Giammusso, who ranks Steelers fans as the second-best traveling fan base in the NFL, behind only the Bills.

โ€œThere are a lot of Steelers fans all over so there are definitely going to be some black-and-gold jerseys at Highmark Stadium on Sunday,โ€ he added.

But don’t expect it to be anything like last Sunday’s game in Miami, when Bills fans made up a big portion of the crowd and scooped up many of the tickets that were available on the secondary market in the days leading up to the season finale.

A lot will depend on the attitude of Steelers fans and their outlook on this game, as well as their willingness to sit through what may be a cold, snowy and blustery afternoon in Orchard Park on Sunday.

Steelers fan Justin McGonigle booked his stay this weekend in Buffalo shortly after the Bills wrapped up their Sunday night win over Miami, setting up the Steelers-Bills matchup. He knows many Steelers fans that are more than happy to be making the short trip to Buffalo from Pennsylvania, and he expects theyโ€™ll be bringing along their Terrible Towels.
