Lackawanna man arrested on child pornography charges through Snapchat

A Lackawanna man was arrested on child pornography charges, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said on Monday.

Maxwell Gawley, 32, is accused of uploading child pornography videos from three separate Snapchat accounts that were flagged by the server, authorities said. The app lodged three complaints to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in December 2021, January 2022 and September 2022 when Homeland Security Investigations began investigating the case.

Gawley is accused of having sexual conversations with a minor on the app and exchanging child pornography.

In April, a search warrant was conducted at his residence where computers, cell phones and electronic storage devices were seized.

Gawley has been charged with enticement, production and distribution of child pornography. If convicted, he faces a mandatory 15 years in prison.

He made an initial court appearance before a conditional release.
