By now you may have read or heard more than you ever would have imagined about the solar eclipse that will sweep into Western New York from the southwest at 2:04 p.m. today, when the moon blocks the sun in growing amounts until complete coverage begins around 3:15 p.m. or so, depending on how far north you are in the region.

Animals may act differently โ€“ or not

The darkening sky and lower temperatures experienced in an eclipse โ€œcan cause wildlife to shift their behavior to nighttime routines,โ€ according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

People have observed birds roosting, crickets chirping, owls hooting, bees returning to hives and fireflies lighting up during an eclipse.
