On Friday in Buffalo, a news conference and rally drew several state politicians – both Democrats and Republicans. Representatives from a half-dozen labor unions also were there, as were health system rivals Kaleida Health and Catholic Health. Then, for good measure, throw in some nursing homes, too – one for-profit; one nonprofit.
Typically, it would be difficult for all of those groups to come together on any one thing, but they agreed on this much: New York State – and, particularly, Gov. Kathy Hochul – needs to increase Medicaid funding for hospitals and nursing homes.
New York State leaders see expanded doula coverage as one key to improving, and reducing the racial inequities in, maternal care.
