An unknown male threatened to shoot people at a Tops Markets in North Tonawanda on Thursday evening, prompting the evacuation of the store, North Tonawanda police said.ย
At about 7 p.m., the man called the Niagara County 911 dispatch center and threatened violence at the Tops on Meadow Drive, police said. The man used a voice disguiser on the call, and the number could not be immediately traced.
Police cleared the Tops of people and escorted employees and customers to their vehicles.ย
The threat came 18 months after a racist mass shooting at a Tops in Buffalo killed 10 Black people and wounded three others on May 14, 2022.ย
