Republican challenging incumbent Bollman for Buffalo Common Council’s Lovejoy seat

There are contested elections for four seats on Buffalo Common Council on Nov. 7, but only the Lovejoy District race involves two major party candidates.

Council Member Bryan J. Bollman, a Democrat vying for a second term, is running against David K. McElroy, who will be on the Republican and Conservative lines.

Tuesday was not a good night for left-leaning, progressive Democrats. But it was a very good night for Buffalo’s Democratic establishment, longtime incumbents and party headquarters.ย 

Bollman, 39, said his experience sets him apart. Before he was elected to his first term in 2019, he had been the chief of staff to his predecessor, Richard Fontana, for 11 years.

โ€œIn public service, experience matters, and I am thankful for the relationships that I have created in the public and private sectors, which led to the many accomplishments during my first term,โ€ he said.

This is the first time McElroy has run for public office.
