The Jacobs Institute’s medical device technology incubator, a renovation of a former downtown bank building in Dunkirk and a new year-round entertainment venue in Niagara Falls will share more than $1.5 million in state grants as part of the 13th round of statewide consolidated regional funding for economic development.

In the biggest local win, Empire State Development Corp. said it has awarded a $1 million grant through the Western New York Regional Economic Development Council to Jacobs, a nonprofit vascular medical technology innovation facility in Buffalo.
Jacobs plans to renovate and expand its Buffalo incubator by converting a conference room into a learning lab, doubling its capacity and bolstering its ability to train and hire more engineers, according to the state.
Among the renovations is an overhaul of audio-visual equipment to record and livestream, along with specialized 3D printing equipment and software to advance the institute’s anatomic modeling into planning treatment.
In Dunkirk, Buffalo Business Park will receive $150,000 to renovate a former downtown bank building into a development with both residential and commercial space.
The building is located near the State University of New York at Fredonia and the Dunkirk Pier on Lake Erie. The state said the renovation will support the city’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative efforts.
