Three veteran restaurateurs are teaming up to reopen the former Hatch and William K’s at the Erie Basin Marina on Buffalo’s waterfront.
Two years after taking over the lease from the city to launch what would briefly become the Juicery at the Hatch, Angelo Canna Jr. is partnering with the co-owners of Liberty Hound and the Terrace at Delaware Park for an as-yet unnamed venture that would revive the once-popular waterfront site.

The project by Canna, Mike Shatzel and Jason Davidson would combine a hot dog stand, ice cream spot, clam bar, beer garden, live music venue and private event space โ all in one place.
“People are looking for a reason to come down to the waterfront,” Davidson said. “Theyโre looking to enjoy it, and we want to give them some things to enjoy on the other side, at Erie Basin, that has been underwhelming for the last few years.”
Davidson said he sees plenty of opportunity at the city-owned site.
“I love that space,” he said. “Mike and I always felt that space was underutilized. We have lots of ideas.”
He said the trio plans to bring back some of the traditional options that people expectย โ like an ice cream vendor and a takeout grill stand with hot dogs, hamburgers, fried bologna and sausages.
“The Hatch had such success with that in the day, and thatโs what people are looking for,” Davidson said.ย
