Hunting contests that allow for the killing of animals for money and entertainment have been called cruel and inhumane.
“We’re talking about competitions that kill wildlife purely under the disgusting guise of entertainment. It’s barbaric. And it’s downright inhumane,” State Sen. Tim Kennedy said.
Gov. Kathy Hochul signed legislation Friday to protect wildlife by banning these contests. Her action is a victory for animal rights activists who had urged an end to the wanton slaughter of animals.
“We’re talking about competitions that kill wildlife purely under the disgusting guise of entertainment. It’s barbaric. And it’s downright inhumane,” State Sen. Tim Kennedy said last September, while joined by Brian Shapiro, state director of the Humane Society of the United States, at the SPCA office in West Seneca.
