Women United of Greater Niagara announced Tuesday that its annual Personal Hygiene Drive, which concluded this week, raised more than $6,000 in donations.
An affiliate of United Way of Greater Niagara, the nonprofit led by president Joanne Beaton collected, sorted and packed 40 boxes for distribution to local area schools for students in need. The aim of the drive is to help fill personal hygiene closets in every school district in Niagara County and the Tonawandas.
As a result of the drive, hygiene closets in schools that already had them were stocked and refilled. Meanwhile, those that had not yet created one for students will now be able to do so. Items were distributed to the Barker, Lewiston-Porter, Lockport, Newfane, Niagara Falls, Niagara-Wheatfield, North Tonawanda, Royalton-Hartland, Starpoint, City of Tonawanda and Wilson school districts.
