We’re a few weeks removed from the thrilling conclusion to Super Bowl 58, and the wait for the NFL offseason has been a long one. The good news is that there isn’t that much longer separating fans from blockbuster moves and the excitement of the NFL Draft.
We’ve made a handy guide for those looking to circle some key dates ahead of the NFL offseason.
The NFL Combine: February 27th- March 4th
Prospect showcases are often regarded as the first steps on the road to the NFL Draft, but the second is always the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. It’s where all 32 teams get to see how this year’s prospects test athletically, as well as holding meetings to get to know them better.
Franchise/transition tag deadline: March 5th
The deadline for the franchise tag this offseason takes place just one day after the NFL Combine. There are plenty of big names to watch during this window, with teams scrambling to secure the short-term futures of budding stars who they might not yet be able to work out a long-term deal at this point.
Giants RB Saquon Barkley and Panthers EDGE Brian Burns headline a crop of players that involves Tee Higgins, Chris Jones, and Antoine Winfield. Depending on how things go over the next few weeks, these decisions could have a huge impact on the free agency market.
Legal tampering & free agency: March 11th-13th
The new league year will commence on March 13th, and pending free agents are still contracted until 1PM PST that day. However, teams can actually reach out to pending free agents from other franchises two days before this deadline, opening the doors for some chaotic moves.
