PLEASANT VALLEY – State Police are investigating the attempted robbery of a Pleasant Valley bank that occurred on Saturday afternoon. Dutchess County 911 received the emergency call at approximately 12:32 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2023.
New York State Police and at least one Dutchess County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the Chase Bank at 1600 Main Street (Route 44) in Pleasant Valley after employees reported that a man had attempted to rob the bank.
The employees indicated that a black male, approximately 6’1″ tall, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, black jeans, white surgical mask, and clear plastic gloves entered the bank and passed a note demanding money. There was no report of a weapon being displayed.
When the employee did not immediately produce the currency, the suspect fled the bank on foot, traveling north. At the time of the original response, police were not certain if the suspect had left the area in a vehicle.
At approximately 1:10 p.m., the state police issued a “BOLO” (Be On the Look Out) for an older model, faded green Jeep Cherokee, with a Florida license plate, seen traveling north on North Avenue toward Salt Point Turnpike. The vehicle and its occupant(s) were sought in possible connection with the attempted robbery.
A New York State Police Aviation Unit helicopter was dispatched to the area and was observed circling the area in an approximate radius of one mile. The bank remained open for business.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the New York State Police Troop K headquarters at 845-677-7300.
