ALBANY – Areas with high levels of gun-involved violence have been awarded state funding to help stop the bullets from flying.
“GIVE,” or the Gun Involved Violence Elimination initiative, provides state aid to targeted areas.
The Poughkeepsie City Police Department and Dutchess County agencies will receive a total of $1.4 million; Mount Vernon and Yonkers Police Departments and Westchester County agencies will split a total of $1.56 million.
The Newburgh and Middletown city police departments and Orange County agencies will split just under $1.8 million.
Kingston City Police and Ulster County agencies will receive $405,525; and Spring Valley Police and Rockland County agencies will receive $358,000.
The State Division of Criminal Justice Services established the GIVE initiative a decade ago to provide funding, training and technical assistance to police agencies.
