MONTICELLO -With Independence Day comes fireworks. Many municipalities host elaborate pyrotechnic displays, but many people set off their own.
“They’re dangerous,” warned Sullivan County Undersheriff Eric Chaboty.
“When you are setting off fireworks, you should do it in a safe manner. Use your common sense. Don’t do it where it can start a fire where any papers or cardboard could catch fire. Don’t let little kids set off fireworks, and also, if people are drinking at your house, don’t let the people who are drinking set off the fireworks. That type of activity will lead to injury,” he said.
Fireworks that do not explode or shoot into the sky are legal in New York; however, some municipalities like Middletown have banned the use of any fireworks in the city.
