BEACON – The 42-year-old woman who fell into the Fishkill Creek on Tuesday night died at the hospital, according to the City of Beacon Police. The woman had fallen into the creek just upstream from the dam near Main and East Main Streets in Beacon at approximately 6:40 p.m. as initially reported by Mid-Hudson News.
The woman had been with her daughter on the bank of the creek when she fell down a 15-foot embankment and landed in the storm-swollen Fishkill Creek. The daughter called 911 and first responders rushed to the area of 50 Leonard Street where the victim had fallen.
City of Beacon firefighters recovered the woman just upstream from the dam and pulled her from the water. She was unconscious and unresponsive as lifesaving efforts were initiated. She was taken by ambulance to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital with CPR in progress. Police say she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital but did not indicate what injuries occurred.
City of Beacon Police Detective Sergeant Jason Johnson said the initial report that the victim had fallen backward and down to the creek while having her picture taken has been confirmed.
The police have declined to release the victim’s identity pending notification of her extended family.
