SHANDELEE- The opening concert of the Shandelee Music Festival’s (SMF) 30th anniversary season will reunite two audience favorites – violinist Misha Keylin and pianist Ilya Kazantsev in “An Evening of Chamber Music” on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 8:00 p.m.
Violinist Misha Keylin debuted at Carnegie Hall when he was 11 years old. S ince then, his wide-ranging repertoire has brought him notoriety, press accolades and awards such as “Critics Choice” by The New York Times, Gramophone and The Strad. His career now spans 50 countries on five continents.
Keylin has been a guest soloist with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Leipzig Chamber Orchestra, Israel Sinfonietta, Brandenburg Philharmonic and others. He’s performed at venues in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco and other major cities in the U.S. and around the world.
In 2011, Keylin because a founding member of the Hermitage Piano Trio with renowned pianist Ilya Kazantsev and cellist Sergey Antonov. After signing to a multiple album recording deal with Reference Recordings, the Trio’s debut CD was released in June 2019.
Pianist Ilya Kazantsev has been hailed as “virtually flawless” by the Washington Post. He’s performed in Russia, Germany, Japan, Italy, France, Canada, the U.S. and many other countries, and he’s won numerous awards including first prize at the Nikolai Rubinstein International Competition in Paris, the International Chopin Competition in Moscow and the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati.
Beginning his music studies at the age of nine, Kazantsev was accepted as a student at the Central Music School at the Tchaikovsky State Conservatory. Upon moving to the U.S., he continued his studies at the Mannes College of Music and the Manhattan School of Music. Kazantsev is an enthusiastic advocate of contemporary music, and he’s presented numerous premieres of works by contemporary American, Russian and Eastern European composers.
