MIDDLETOWN- The former cafeteria in the Shepard Student Center on the Middletown Campus of SUNY Orange has been transformed into a student lounge. The ribbon was cut on the new space earlier this week, which was created to offer students a space for relaxing, studying, socializing, and gaming.
Dr. Kristine Young, SUNY Orange president, spoke about the importance of the new space. “This is one of the best stories of collaboration in our professional careers,” said Young.
Several of the college’s students played an integral role in making the new space a reality.
Brianna Reid, student Senate member, shared a few words before the ribbon cutting. “The diversity and the number of students here. I’m happy for them, proud of everything we’ve done, and for the students to come, I am amazed.”
Student Trustee-designee Djean Nikitov said, “I had high expectations, but seeing this many people attend was way beyond them. It is the perfect culmination of a process where every part of the College—from students, executives, staff, and faculty, got together to do something that is just beautiful.”
SUNY Orange Board of Trustees Chair Ralph Martucci added, “The best part of today is seeing happy students filling the room and knowing that they needed and wanted their own pace. They brought this to our attention, they made it happen, and this is the perfect space for them.”
