KINGSTON – A Kingston man faces five to seven years in prison when sentenced next January for his guilty plea in Ulster County Court to the felony crimes of strangulation and assault.
William Knox, III, 29, entered the plea before visiting Sullivan County Court Judge James Farrell on Friday, September 1.
Knox was first charged with acts of domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend in February and March of 2022. He choked her in front of her four-year-old child, causing injury and loss of consciousness to the victim.
While Knox was remanded to the Ulster County Jail pending prosecution for domestic violence, he assaulted a corrections officer in the jail, resulting in more charges.
“Domestic violence threatens the safety and wellbeing of everyone in the home; and that violence against corrections officers doing their jobs poses a serious danger to the safety of everyone in the facility,” said Chief Assistant District Attorney Emmanuel Nneji. “Such offenses will not be taken lightly.”
