HYDE PARK – The Hyde Park Central School District is working closely with the Hyde Park Police Department after a threat of school violence appeared on SnapChat. Hyde Park Schools Superintendent Dr. Pedro Roman sent a district-wide notification on Thursday afternoon.
The threat, according to the notification, said, “On Friday, September 15th, we will open fire on schools.”
Authorities have said no schools in Hyde Park or the surrounding districts were identified as targets of gun violence. Because the original post has been shared repeatedly, the police investigation has been slowed as they work to identify the source.
“We take all threats seriously,” Roman said in the advisory. “Out of an abundance of caution, you may see additional patrol cars near our schools tomorrow.”
The superintendent said that parents can contact their child’s principal or his office at 845-229-4000 if they have questions or concerns.
